Fanfare:

I am extremely disappointed with The Vindicator’s story last Saturday on the Ursuline and Campbell boys basketball district championship game.

The first sentence in the article referred to the flagrant foul and ejection of Jamel Turner of Ursuline. That’s fine if you felt that was the most important event in the game. I have an issue with you restating the fact that the player was ejected two more times in the same report. It was nothing short of a character assassination.

There was no excuse for Jamel to engage another player. He may have felt he was issued the first offense, that still doesn’t make it right. The fact that the referees did not see the entire incident is not a valid reason either as that is part of the game too.

However I know Jamel Turner to be a good young man. He knows what he did was wrong and is very contrite. I also know that he is working very hard in the classroom, and possibly even harder establishing himself as a good man and a solid citizen. If he continues his efforts in these areas combined with his God given athletic ability, Jamel Turner is going to be someone that all of Youngstown will be very proud of.
