Alpha Nu will host regional conference

YOUNGSTOWN — Alpha Nu Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., will host the 28th Central Regional Conference from March 28-30 at the Holiday Inn in Boardman.

The public is invited to attend, and the schedule follows: March 28, educational forum at 7 p.m. with speaker Dr. Doris Browning Austin, national president, of Baltimore; March 29, a luncheon at noon with Youngstown’s first lady Sonja Williams as speaker and an awards banquet at 7:30 p.m.; and March 30, a prayer breakfast at 7:30 a.m. with Lynne Phillips delivering the message. Alpha Nu Chapter was chartered in Youngstown in 1938. It is a business and professional sorority that has awarded $45,000 in college scholarships to young men and women since its inception and takes pride in a 90-percent college graduation rate.

Alpha Nu participated in the community with the Adopt-a-Class program, tutoring, Career Day with New Bethel Christian Education Committee, holiday food basket giveaways to the needy, and the youth of McGuffey Centre.

The sorority supports its affiliates’ activities, which include NCNW, NAACP, Urban League and United Negro College Fund.

The region includes Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana and Wisconsin.

Alpha Nu boasts a past national president, the late Bessie Coston, and two past regional directors, Luddell Hill and the late Katherine Giddens.
