Submit information for Holy Week, Easter

The Vindicator’s Religion page will run a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Palm Sunday, March 16; Holy Thursday, March 20; Good Friday, March 21; Holy Saturday, March 22; and Easter, March 23. The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Wednesday. Publication will be March 15.

Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb, the day, time, type of service, your name and a phone number for verification.

Mass for missing man

YOUNGSTOWN — A Day of Prayer for Daniel J. Marks is planned Thursday with a special Mass at 8:30 a.m. at St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane. His parents are Patricia Bernard Marks of Girard and Ronald Marks of Hubbard.

Marks, whose 26th birthday is March 13, disappeared Nov. 10, 2005, in Kauai, Hawaii, while camping and hiking. Though many searches have been conducted, no information has been uncovered on his fate. A graduate of Girard High School and Antioch College, he was a graduate student at Portland State University.

Contributions for search efforts may be donated to Daniel J. Marks Fund, Huntington Bank in Girard or any local branch of Huntington Bank. Donations are tax-deductible.

Speakers to be featured

YOUNGSTOWN — Antioch Baptist Gospel Choir will present “Seven Steps to the Cross” during a program at 4 p.m. March 16 at Antioch Baptist Church, 110 Funston St. Seven speakers will be featured and recall the steps Christ took to Calvary. Speakers include Cynthia Wright-Palmer, Sylvia Jennings, Valda Stevens McKinney and Reggie Smith. The Rev. Ernest Ellis is host pastor.

Youth Club musical

GIRARD — Girard First United Methodist Church Youth Club will present the musical, “Acorns to Oaks,” at 10:45 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary, 22 N. Market St. The musical focuses on growing in Christ. Those attending are asked to donate a nonperishable food item, which will go to Emmanuel Community Care Center in Girard. Food items will be collected during the production as part of the “harvest.”

Jordan River Band event

WARREN — Maranatha Christian Church, state Route 5, will host the first concert of the Jordan River Band’s 2008, “Times Are Changing” tour at 6:30 p.m. March 16. Maranatha Christian is a nondenominational church with Pastor Woody Cavender. The band performed at the 2007 Christian Music Concert “Collide Fest.”

Special program

NEW WATERFORD — Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, will host Yoel Ben David of Jews for Jesus during a presentation at 10:30 a.m. March 16. He will present Christ in the Passover.

Marketplace Solutions

YOUNGSTOWN — Marketplace Solutions will hold a luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. March 27 at the Youngstown Club, Commerce Building, 201 E. Commerce St. Speakers will be Chuck Proudfit, founder of At Work On Purpose, and Patrick McBane, executive director of Marketplace Solutions, whose purpose is to equip, connect and mobilize marketplace leaders with a goal of achieving spiritual, economic and social transformation in individuals and nations. Flame Fellowship

BOARDMAN — Greater Youngstown Chapter of Flame Fellowship, an interdenominational ministry, will meet March 17 at the Georgeanna Parker Activity Center in Boardman Park. Fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the ministry at 7. Guest speaker will be Pastor Kathleen Falk, associate pastor of Thrushing Floor in Lisbon.

Legion of Mary

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Diocese Legion of Mary Curia will hold its annual acies at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Columba Cathedral, 159 W. Rayen Ave. The Rev. John Keehner, rector of the cathedral, will speak and preside over services. Refreshments will follow in the church hall.

Valley Bible Study

YOUNGSTOWN — Valley Bible Study, an ongoing Catholic study of the readings for the coming Sunday, holds two sessions on the same material from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays at St. Brendan Church school Room 103, 2800 Oakwood Ave. Sessions will be next week and March 25 and 26. No sessions will be held March 18 and 19.

Guest speaker

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Rev. John Mallinak will speak at 7 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Temple Worship Center, located at Epworth United Methodist Church, 805 E. Washington St. He is a member of the editorial staff of Pentecostal Church of God International Headquarters and has served as a pastor. He is a native of New Castle.

Project is success

MINERAL RIDGE — Youth at First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge, 3654 N. Main St., collected $513 for the annual Souper Bowl of Caring Offering and Get Canned for Hunger project held Feb. 3. The amount was matched by an anonymous donor. A total of $1,026 was donated to Niles Community Services. Jean Williams, director of NCS, attended the February worship service and received a check during the children’s message.

The youth also collected 927 nonperishable food items that went to Mineral Ridge Community Food Cupboard.

Men’s Day event

WARREN — St. James Church of God in Christ, 1838 Main St. S.W., will hold a Men’s Day Celebration during services Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Elder Kenny Eldridge of Fellowship Tabernacle Christian Center Church of God in Christ will be the evening speaker. Elder Melvin Howard is pastor and Charles Kirkland is Men’s Day chairman. Melvin Howard Jr. and company will present a concert at 7 p.m. today featuring Alonzo Smith, La Ron Rainey, Barrett Barnes Jr., Eric Howard, LaMon Howard and the St. James Praise Team.

Program for women

YOUNGSTOWN — A program, “Know Who I Am,” is planned at 3:30 p.m. March 15 for women only at First Calvary Baptist Church, 126 E. Wood St.

Lenten meditation

SHARON, Pa. — St. John’s Episcopal Church, 226 W. State St., will hold the last in its Lenten meditation-recital series with a program at noon Tuesday starting with carillon music followed by meditation and recital by Youngstown Fine Arts Brass Quintet. A light lunch will follow.
