Area Orthodox churches will observe Great Lent with various services and programs. Great Lent begins Monday.

USt. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, will mark Saturday of Souls and Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. today and March 15. Orthros will be at 9 a.m. and Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. Sundays; Great Compline at 7 p.m. Mondays and Presanctified Liturgy at 6 p.m. Wednedays followed by dinner and discussion. Salutations to the Virgin Mary will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and March 21 and at 7 p.m. March 28 and April 4. Akathist hymn will be at 7 p.m. April 11.

USt. Michael Orthodox Church, 125 Steel St., Youngstown:

Wednesday, confessions at 6 p.m. and Pre-Sanctified Liturgy at 6:30, and March 19 and 26 and April 2, 9 and 16, confessions at 6 p.m. and Pre-Sanctified Liturgy at 6:30.

USt. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 301 Struthers-Liberty Road, Campbell: Orthodoxy Sunday March 16 with vespers and procession of icons at 5 p.m. The Very Rev. John Harvey is homilist and the Very Rev. John R. Steffaro is pastor. Eastern Orthodox Clergy Association of the Mahoning Valley is the sponsor.

These events will be sponsored by Youngstown Deanery Clergy Association of American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese.

USt. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 2053 North Road N.E., Warren:

Lenten mission will be March 30 and vespers will be at 4 p.m. with the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Kenneth M. Bachofsky, dean.

USt. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 725 Cedar Ave., Sharon, Pa.: Lenten mission April 5 with confessions from 2 to 4 p.m. and vespers at 5.
