’Hounds’ Odut gets 3 goals in 5-3 victory
BROOMFIELD, Colo. — Mark Odut’s hat trick led the Youngstown SteelHounds to a 5-3 victory over the Rocky Mountain Rage in a Central Hockey League game Friday night at the Broomfield Event Center.
The victory was the fourth straight for the SteelHounds (33-19-4), who continue their final road trip of the regular season at Colorado tonight at 9:05.
Odut scored two goals 24 seconds apart in the first period to give Youngstown a 2-0 lead.
Jason Baird assisted on both of Odut’s scores, and newly acquired Tyler Wooddisse assisted on one.
First, Baird scored with 11:59 remaining in the period, then scored about with 11:35 to go, giving the SteelHounds a 2-0 lead.
Jeff Genovy made it 3-0 with 6:26 remaining in the first period, on assists by Odut and Baird.
After Rocky Mountain’s David Morelli scored on a power play with 4:19 remaining, Bryan Lachapelle restored Youngstown’s three goal lead with an unassisted goal at the 16:37 mark.
Odut gave the SteelHounds a 5-1 lead with 5:21 remaining in the second period with his third goal of the game, on assists by Kurtis Dulle and Andy Franck.
The Rage (34-17-5), who began the night tied with Colorado for first place in the Northwest Division, got a power-play goal by Daymen Rycroft with 11:07 remaining in the game and a score by Jeremy Garrison with 2:29 to go.
