Despite loss, Ford to pay
bonuses to employees
DETROIT — Even though it lost $2.7 billion last year, Ford Motor Co. will pay performance bonuses to all hourly and salaried workers in the U.S. and Canada, and to its management team around the globe, the automaker’s chief executive announced Wednesday.
In an e-mail message to workers, Chief Executive Alan Mulally said the bonuses will come in paychecks this month because the company is making significant progress toward becoming profitable again.
Hourly workers will get lump-sum bonuses of $1,000 this year, while bonuses for salaried workers will vary by pay grade and leadership level, the message said.
UAW bargainers, supplier
plan to resume talks
DETROIT — Bargainers for the United Auto Workers and a key parts supplier for General Motors Corp. were to resume negotiations today, the first talks since workers went on strike last week.
About 3,600 UAW workers at five American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Inc. plants in Michigan and New York walked off their jobs Feb. 26 after contract talks broke down over wages. The resulting parts shortage has forced GM and other parts suppliers to shut down plants in the U.S. and Canada, affecting thousands of workers.
