Commemorative event planned by federation
YOUNGSTOWN — The American-Hungarian Federation of Churches and Societies of Youngstown, a nonprofit organization, has scheduled an event to commemorate the 1848 War of Independence for 2:30 p.m. March 16 at the Youngstown American Hungarian Club, 2210 Donald Ave.
Guest speakers, in both Hungarian and English languages, will give presentations on Hungarian backgrounds and current cultural events and changes taking place in Hungary. A Youngstown Hungarian dance group will perform several numbers, and local musicians will present traditional Hungarian melodies. Poems will be recited and there will be a sing-along. Refreshments will be served.
This annual event allows the Hungarian community to gather together to remember past struggles for political and religious freedoms in their native land.
