pet first-aid training

CANFIELD — The American Red Cross and Angels for Animals have teamed up to offer pet first-aid training from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 15. This course taught by a Red Cross instructor will be at Angels for Animals on state Route 165 in Canfield. The course fee is $34 and includes lecture and video, a pet first-aid handbook, first-aid kit and a tour of Angels’ facility. Call the Red Cross to register at

Cemetery cleanups

Cemetery cleanups will be March 15 in Jackson Township and March 17 at St. John Cemetery on Villa Marie Road in Coitsville Township. All Christmas decorations must be removed from grave markers by those dates in those communities.

Relay for Life meeting

Food program at church

YOUNGSTOWN — Crossroads Church, 554 S. Meridian Road, will be taking orders for “Angel Food Blessings In A Box.” Crossroads is a host site for this food program, which helps reduce the amount people spend on groceries each month. Cost is $30 per unit and includes meats, vegetables, fruit and more. There are no income restrictions or guidelines. Pre-order, prepay and Ohio Direction Card are accepted. Orders will be taken from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15 and 17; and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. March 12. Distribution of food will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. March 29. Search, rescue corps

YOUNGSTOWN — The Search and Rescue, Recovery Corps’ Mahoning County Unit will have an open recruitment meeting for new members at 8 p.m. Thursday. It will be in the sheriff’s ready room in the Mahoning County Justice Center, 110 Fifth Ave. Participants are asked to enter through the back door. U.S. SARR is the response element of the Sheriff’s Senior Services Unit Search and Recovery program for the elderly.

Neighborhood watch

VIENNA — The Vienna Township Neighborhood Watch will meet at 7 p.m. next Monday at the township hall, 848 Youngstown-Kingsville Road. Gary Wireman, township zoning inspector, will speak on changes in zoning regulations. Donations will be solicited for the Ecumenical Food Pantry at the William’s IGA and Cortland Bank Vienna Branch on Friday and at the meeting. The Spring Chili Cook-Off will be at 5:30 p.m. April 14, at the Vienna Fire Station.
