Need a ride to vote early today? Call the Baptists
YOUNGSTOWN — The Ohio State Baptist Convention and other community partners are sponsoring free rides to the Mahoning County Board of Elections all day today for early voting.
The first van of voters will arrive at the Mahoning County Board of Elections at 9 a.m. today to highlight the last day of early voting and call attention to free rides to the polls. They will also be offering rides to local polling locations on Tuesday.
“There are many people in our community who don’t have a ride or need help getting out to vote. Too often they get left out of the process, so we are blessed to be able to provide this service for free to anyone who needs it,” said Pastor Michael Harrison of Union Baptist Church. The Get Out the Vote (GOTV) effort is being spearheaded by Harrison’s congregations and the campaign is supported by PowerPAC, a national nonprofit advocacy organization, which has sponsored nonpartisan voter mobilization focused on African American empowerment during the primary election season in 10 states from Maryland to Mississippi.
The Ohio Baptist Convention has hired eighty people to work on the project in various capacities.
