Austintown youth
Brandon R. Macias, son of Alfonso and Suzanne Macias of Austintown, recently became an Eagle Scout at a court of honor at Western Reserve United Methodist Church in Canfield. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 3 of Canfield, which he joined in 1995. He has earned 41 merit badges. His scoutmaster is James Warneke Sr.
Brandon has held the offices of scribe and chaplain’s aide. He also received special awards: Brotherhood member of Order of the Arrow, Ad Altare Dei religious award and was summer camper of the week in 2007 at Camp Beaumont.
His Eagle project was to clear a path to create a meditation area in the woods, including a bench located behind the outdoor chapel at Western Reserve United Methodist Church.
Brandon is also a member of Mahoning County MRDD Special Olympics Track & Field and Swimming Team and a member of the Pin Busters Bowling team.
He works as a janitorial aide at the Center of Javit in Austintown.
Canfield honoree
Gregory DiRienzo, son of Henry DiRienzo and Ruth Mastriana of Canfield, recently received his Eagle Scout Award at a ceremony at St. Charles Church in Boardman.
Gregory has been a member of the Western Reserve Council Boy Scouts of America Troop 60 at Westminster Presbyterian Church since 2002 with scoutmaster Byron Harnishfeger.
He was a member of Pack 114 at St. Charles Church for five years and earned Cub Scouting’s highest honor, The Arrow of Light.
His leadership experience includes assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, historian, senior patrol leader and den chief.
His Scouting awards include fifth-year Pipestone at Seven Ranges Scout Camp, Emergency Preparedness Pin, Den Chief Service Award, Sourdough Award, Six Year Service Star, and 50-Miler Award. He has earned 25 merit badges.
For his Eagle Scout service project, he designed and constructed a Peace Garden at St. Charles. It consists of pavers, landscaping, an engraved bench and the peace pole, a six-sided wood post engraved with six languages, all declaring “May Peace Prevail On Earth.” The Peace Garden was dedicated to St Charles’ late pastor, the Rev. Daniel Venglarik.
Gregory is a junior at Cardinal Mooney High School and its speech, tennis and golf teams. He is also a member of Spanish, art, chess club, service clubs and a graduate of Youth Leadership Mahoning Valley.
He is a lector at St. Charles Church and was recently featured in a public service announcement for the Greater Western Reserve Council Join Scouting Program.

Clinical psychology
Catherine E. Mosher received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the State University of New York in Albany in August 2007. Dr. Mosher is a 1990 valedictorian of Fitch High School and a 2002 summa cum laude graduate in psychology from Youngstown State University.
After completing her pre-doctoral internship at Duke University Medical Center, she is now a postdoctoral research fellow in psycho-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
She is the recipient of a three-year National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Health to conduct a research project titled “Expressive Writing and Adjustment to Metastatic Breast Cancer.”
Dr. Mosher is the daughter of Dr. Allan R. Mosher, professor of music at Youngstown State University, and the late Trudy S. Mosher.
