John P. ‘J.P.’ Brown III, the national commander of American Veterans Inc. for 2007-08 and Navy Vietnam veteran, was honored Saturday at a testimonial dinner at the Holiday Inn in Boardman. Some information about Brown:

Chairs the U.S. Selective Service Board No. 80 after having been appointed by President Reagan.

Maintains a longtime membership with AMVETS Post No. 44 of Youngstown.

Hosts radio talk shows for veterans on WNIO-AM 1390, WKBN-AM 570 and several other local Clear Channel stations.

Retired from a 31-year career in telecommunications with Ameritech AT&T.

Served in the Navy Honor Guard at the Naval Air Station in Philadelphia.

Served as AMVETS national 1st vice commander, 2006-07; 2nd vice commander, 2005-06; and four terms as Post No. 44’s commander.
