Scrappers Roundup

New Addition: Infielder Walter Diaz joined the Scrappers roster Sunday night and started in place of the Cleveland Indians’ No. 1 draft choice, Lonnie Chisenhall. Diaz was promoted from the Gulf Coast League Indians. He is a native of Caracas Venezuela and batted .421 for the GCL Indians.

Chisenhall staying: The Indians top draft choice said he’s been told that he might be staying in Mahoning Valley all summer. “They told me they don’t want to rush me,” Chisenhall said. That is in contrast to the last two top picks, Beau Mills and Trevor Crowe, who didn’t spend much time at Mahoning Valley before moving up the minor league ladder.

Walk offs: The Scrappers have two last inning walk-off wins in their first 12 games after Saturday night’s game-winning homer by Chisenhall in the 11th inning. The first came on opening night when Brock Simpson singled in Chisenhall with the winning run against Williamsport.

Fireworks Night: A big crowd of 4,544 fans showed up to watch fireworks following the contest but had to wait following the game which ended about 8:15.

Rain Again: A brief downpour delayed Sunday night’s contest 26 minutes. Rain has plagued nearly every game on this home stand. Fans braved the short downpour and stayed to enjoy the fireworks show.
