MLB ROUNDUP Sunday’s other games

INTERLEAGUE

Angels 1, Dodgers 0

LOS ANGELES — John Lackey held the Dodgers to three hits for 82‚Ñ3 innings and Francisco Rodriguez retired James Loney with the bases loaded for the final out. Mike Napoli’s RBI single off Derek Lowe (5-8) in the second inning was all the offense the Angels needed. Rodriguez, who came in with two outs in the ninth and runners on first and second, walked Jeff Kent to load the bases, then got Loney on a routine grounder to second to earn his major league-leading 32nd save. Lackey (6-1), whose 2008 debut was delayed six weeks by a strained triceps, allowed only five base runners in a dominant performance. He struck out nine and walked two. Lackey retired 14 in a row at one juncture. Lowe held the Angels to one run on five hits and two walks in his seven innings. He struck out seven.

Tigers 4, Rockies 3

DETROIT — Dane Sardinha hit a two-run triple for his first major league hit to rally Detroit over Colorado and a three-game sweep. Detroit, which won its fifth straight and 15th in its last 18, has a winning record for the first time this season. Troy Tulowitzki homered for Colorado, which lost its seventh straight.

Twins 5, Brewers 0

MINNEAPOLIS — Kevin Slowey breezed through his fourth straight dominant start, beating Ben Sheets and Milwaukee with a three-hit shutout. Delmon Young’s two-run homer and Carlos Gomez’s RBI triple highlighted an impressive revival by the Twins against the previously surging Sheets (9-2), hours after their 10-game winning streak ended. The right-handed Slowey (5-6) retired the first 10 batters he faced and struck out eight in his first career shutout, second complete game.

Mets 3, Yankees 1

NEW YORK — Oliver Perez pitched another gem against the Yankees and Carlos Delgado homered again. Billy Wagner closed out the Mets’ fourth win in the six-game rivalry. It was just the second time since interleague play started in 1997 that they’ve taken the season series. Perez (6-5) limited the Yankees to one run and three hits in seven sharp innings. He retired the first 10 batters and wound up striking out eight without a walk. Wagner pitched the ninth for his 18th save in 23 chances.

Astros 3, Red Sox 2

HOUSTON — Mark Loretta had a pinch-hit, RBI single in the eighth inning off Hideki Okajima as the Astros took two of three from the Red Sox. Loretta, who played for Boston in 2006, batted for Doug Brocail (4-3), who earned a victory in relief for the second straight night. Jose Valverde worked the ninth for his 21st save. Josh Beckett, who was born and raised in nearby Spring, Texas, gave up two runs on eight hits, but took his third no-decision in six starts.

Cardinals 9, Royals 6

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jason LaRue drove in four runs with a home run and a triple and Albert Pujols also homered for St. Louis. Every Cardinal batter had a hit except Adam Kennedy, who scored twice and drove in a run. Bannister (7-7), who had been 4-0 with a 1.73 ERA in five daytime home starts, lasted 42‚Ñ3 innings and gave up seven runs on nine hits.

Mariners 9, Padres 2

SAN DIEGO — Ichiro Suzuki went 5-for-5, Adrian Beltre and Jeff Clement homered and the Mariners beat Jake Peavy and the punchless Padres for a three-game sweep. The three-game winning streak matches the Mariners’ season-high. Although Seattle still has the worst record in the major leagues at 31-50, the Padres (32-51) are closing fast. Erik Bedard (5-4) won for the first time in five starts and improved to 3-0 lifetime against the Padres. Bedard and three relievers held San Diego to six hits.

Blue Jays 1, Braves 0

TORONTO — A.J. Burnett pitched seven shutout innings, Alex Rios drove in the only run of the game. Burnett (8-7) struck out a season-high 11 and walked four — one intentional — while allowing four hits. His 119 pitches were also a season-high. Scott Downs worked the eighth, extending his scoreless innings streak to 26, the longest current streak in baseball. B.J. Ryan pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his 16th save in 18 opportunities.

Nationals 3, Orioles 2, 12 innings

WASHINGTON — Ronnie Belliard hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning to give the Nationals the win in front of 39,824 fans, the largest crowd in the three-month history of Nationals Park. The Orioles had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the 12th on Adam Jones’ single. George Sherrill (2-3) retired the first two Nationals batters in the bottom half. But Dmitri Young, Washington’s last position player available, walked as a pinch-hitter. Belliard then drove a 1-2 pitch for his sixth homer of the year into the left-field stands.

Giants 11, Athletics 1

OAKLAND, Calif. — Rich Aurilia homered and matched his career-high with five RBIs to help San Francisco get its first series win in the Bay Area rivalry in two years. Jonathan Sanchez (8-4) won his fifth straight road start. Ray Durham doubled twice and drove in a run and John Bowker had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Giants, who won their fourth in six games overall.

Rangers 5, Phillies 1

ARLINGTON, Texas — Eric Hurley pitched into the sixth inning to earn his first major league win and Chris Davis homered to lead the Rangers. Hurley (1-1) allowed one run and five hits over 52‚Ñ3 innings in his fourth big league start. The 22-year-old rookie struck out three and walked two.

Davis, a 22-year-old rookie who was called up from the minors Thursday, became the first Rangers player to homer in each of his first two starts, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. He hit a two-run shot in his first start Friday against Philadelphia.

Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler went 3-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Philadelphia starter Jamie Moyer (7-6) gave up three runs in 52‚Ñ3 innings. The 45-year-old lefty struck out six and walked four.

White Sox 5, Cubs 1

CHICAGO — Carlos Quentin, Brian Anderson and Jim Thome homered to back Mark Buehrle’s seven strong innings as the White Sox completed a three-game sweep at U.S. Cellular Field. The White Sox won three straight at their home park, one week after the Cubs took three in a row across town at Wrigley Field.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Marlins 4, Diamondbacks 3

MIAMI — Jorge Cantu hit a game-ending RBI single, Hanley Ramirez hit a tying home run as Florida came back to beat Arizona. Ramirez’s 18th home run of the season tied the game 3-all in the ninth. Jeremy Hermida then doubled, and took third on a wild pitch by closer Brandon Lyon to setup Cantu’s single. It was the third blown save in 19 chances for Lyon (2-2). Joe Nelson (1-0) gave up one hit in the ninth to earn his first win of the year for the Marlins, who have beaten the Diamondbacks five of six times this season.
