Action picks up first Class B win


STRUTHERS — Action Physical Therapy broke open a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth inning and won its first Class B League game of the season, 4-1 over Livi Steel Sunday at Cene Park. Dom Neely allowed only one run with four strikeouts for the win, while Zach Cuffman allowed just one earned run in a complete game loss for Livi (11-14). Livi committed five errors in the contest. Josh Dailey scored a pair of runs for Action.

Rondinelli Tuxedo 6, Roth Brothers 2

STRUTHERS — Rondinelli scored five runs int he first inning. Drew Fitzpatrick and Cory Hitt had two hits each for Rondinelli (22-3) while Jason Bagoly and Jaime Shepard had two RBIs each in the first. Kevin McCullugh (3-1) struck out six in the complete-game win. For Roth Brothers (9-16), Kevin Monti, Robert Goeke and Stefan Stelk had two hits each with Stelk driving home both runs. Jon Rhoads (0-3) tossed a complete game allowing four earned runs.

Wharmby Sports 10, Youngstown Express 5

STRUTHERS — Wharmby Sports pounded out 15 hits in its win. Garen Rean and Ross Lopez had three hits each while Mike Tomko, Lucas Guerrera, Evan Anzio, and Jason Burkes had two hits each for Wharmby’s (8-17). Zack Struharik had two hits for the Express (5-20).

Astro Falcons 3, R J Trucking 2

STRUTHERS — Jared Kirin’s one out bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove home the winning run. Mark Lapikas had three hits for Astro while Jared Turocy was the winner in relief. Joe Wielbruda had three hits and two RBIs for R J.

Sugar Excavating 4, Simon Roofing 3

STRUTHERS — Dave Sugar scored three times in the top of the seventh inning and held off a Simon Roofing rally in the bottom of the frame. Dan Banna had a two-run pinch hit single for Sugar. In the bottom of the inning, Simon had scored a run and had the tying run at third and the winning run at second but a two-out line drive off the bat of Ross Revella was grabbed by shortstop Pat O’Brien to end the game. O’Brien (4-2) started the game on the mound and got the win. Jake Kucek came on in the seventh and picked up his league-leading third save. Justin Shaffer had two hits for Dave Sugar(18-7), while Sommers had two hits for Simon Roofing (16-8). Robert Franks (3-1) suffered the loss, going six innings with eight strikeouts.

Roth Brothers 2, Dave Sugar Excavating 1

STRUTHERS — Pat Mulligan pitched an eight-inning complete game for Roth Brothers Saturday night. Mulligan had nine strikeouts while Kevin Monti walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning to force in the winning run. Scott Hanicak had three five hits for Sugar and Todd Kibby struck out 13 batters in seven innings.

Simon Roofing 8, Wharmby Sports 4

STRUTHERS — Simon tied the game in the top of the seventh inning then scored four runs in the eighth. Brett Cooper singled home Brad Bates, who had doubled, to tie the score in the seventh. In the eighth Joe Sekula singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth. Ryan Gruszecki had seven strikeouts in seven innings and allowed only one earned run for the win. Bates had three hits, while Vituci and Rick Sommers added two each. Ben Bechtol had a pair of hits for Wharmby Sports.

Warren AA

WARREN —The New Hamburg Hounds scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat P.I. I. Express, 5-3, Saturday night. Joe Detko, Mike Winters hit two singles apiece. Brett Grabman hit two singles for Express (3-12).

Trumbull County Predators 4, New Hamburg 3

WARREN — The Predators (3-9) built a 4-1 lead by the end of the fourth inning, then held off the Hounds’ rally. John Wagner worked six inning with six strikeouts to pick up the win. Joe Hardy pitched the seventh inning for a save.

Cleats Club Seat Grille 9, Jamestown 6

WARREN — Cleats Club (7-6) scored four runs in the first inning, three in the third and two in the fourth, then held on as the Redbirds rallied for all of their runs in the last three innings. Mike Swoboda, Andy Beachy and Kevin Vadas had two hits apiece.

Flex Strut 5, Jamestown 1

WARREN — Flex Strut (9-4) got a strong pitching effort from Jim Newbrough, who gave up just one hit in five innings to pick up the win., Sean Lucas hit a triple and two singles and stole two bases. Mike Hanck hit a double.
