Flag removal at cemetery

YOUNGSTOWN — The United Veterans Council of Greater Youngstown is meeting at Calvary Cemetery at 8 a.m. Saturday to remove flags from graves. Veterans are encouraged to attend and help with the event. The public is invited to obtain serviceable flags for personal use, and should arrive early before the flag burning ceremony begins. Sergeant is deployed

Army Staff Sgt. Anthony S. Burns is currently deployed overseas at a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Burns, an operating room supervisor, is normally assigned to the 745th Forward Surgical Team, Fort Bliss, Texas. He is the son of Erma J. Beckneu of Wilkesboro, N.C., and Orbie Jackson of Youngstown. His wife, Jennifer, is of El Paso. He graduated in 1994 from Wilkes Central High School, Wilkesboro.

BASIC TRAINING

Army: National Guard Pvt. MeaganM. Menold (Reynolds Junior Senior High School, Greenville, Pa., ’07), daughter of Dennis Menold of Greenville, and Theresa Menold of New Wilmington, Pa.

Navy: Seaman Recruit Shawn M. Burnette (Beaver Falls Area High School, Beaver Falls, Pa., ’01), son of Lynne M. Burnette of Beaver Falls, and John H. Burnette of New Castle, Pa.
