FOURTH OF JULY \Activities

Here are Fourth of July events as submitted to The Vindicator by event organizers:

MAHONING COUNTY

Austintown: The Austintown Historical Society will have an ecumenical service at Austin Log Cabin, 3987 S. Raccoon Road, at 9:30 a.m. Friday. It will include the Fitch Color Guard, a Fitch trumpet player and keynote speaker Rev. Paul Toelk of Grace Lutheran Church and will be followed by a continental breakfast. The parade will be at 2 p.m. beginning at corner of Kirk and Raccoon roads and will proceed North to Falcon Drive.

Boardman: The U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers Chorus will perform at the Maag Outdoor Arts Theatre in Boardman Township Park at 8 p.m. Thursday, followed by fireworks sponsored by B.J. Alan. The event is free, and concessions will be available. Guests should bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Canfield: The Canfield Rotary Club and its sponsors will host fireworks Friday at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Gates open at 6 p.m. There will be free entertainment and parking, and vendors will have a variety of foods available. Fireworks begin at dusk, about 9:15 p.m.

North Jackson: The parade will line up at Liberty Street at 9 a.m. Friday and step off at 10 a.m. The parade route is Mahoning Avenue, ending at Jackson-Milton High School.

Youngstown: The inaugural Downtown Dash and Fireworks Show will be from 5 p.m. to midnight Thursday at a number of downtown-area bars and restaurants. Shuttle transportation will be provided. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. in the Chevrolet Centre parking lot, with music to follow in central square by The Zou and Jones for Revival. Tickets are $10 and include three vouchers (good for up to $2 per location); a Downtown Dash button, shuttle rides and a route map to participating establishments; and “champion” T-shirts to those who visit each establishment. Tickets can be purchased at a sign-up table at Central Square the night of the event and in advance at Cafe Cimmento, Martini’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Barley’s, Rosetta Stone, Imbibe, Draught House, Boxcar Lounge and Cafe, University Pizzeria and Royal Oaks Bar & Grille. The event is sponsored by the city of Youngstown, the Youngstown Business Incubator and M7 Technologies. Proceeds benefit CityScape.

Youngstown: The parade will be at noon Friday. The route will begin on Fifth Avenue across from Youngstown State University’s Stambaugh Stadium and will travel down to Commerce Street, proceeding to Wick Avenue. Participants are still being accepted.

TRUMBULL COUNTY

Niles: Niles will host its annual Independence Day parade on Wednesday starting at Niles McKinley High School. Lineup will begin at 5:45 p.m., and the parade is at 7. The parade route will be the same as the Halloween Parade. All entries should be decorated for the holiday. Participants may walk, ride in cars, or on decorated floats, and ride decorated bikes or on other decorated vehicles.Fireworks display will be at 10 p.m. Friday with food vendors available from 8 p.m. in the downtown.

Warren: W.D. Packard Concert Band concert at 8 p.m. Friday followed by fireworks at W.D. Packard Music Hall, South Lawn band shell.

COLUMBIANA COUNTY

East Palestine: The East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a fireworks display Saturday at the city park. The program is scheduled to start after dusk. Other activities include lineup for the East Palestine Alumni Breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Community Center, pet parade at 10 a.m., bike parade at 12:30, games for all ages at 2 p.m., Duck Derby at 4 p.m., basketball free-throw contest at 5:15 p.m., music at the gazebo at 5:30 p.m. and a movie at the gazebo at 7:30 p.m.

LAWRENCE COUNTY

New Wilmington: Westminster College will host an Independence Day celebration with a free concert and fireworks at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Brittain Lake. The 19th annual concert features River City Brass Band. Attendance in recent years has reached 10,000, so early arrival is suggested. Bring blankets and lawn chairs as well as picnic baskets and refreshments. Battery D 229th Field Artillery of the Pa. National Guard will supply howitzer fire during the 1812 Overture. The evening is capped with a fireworks display provided by Pyrotecnico.
