A brief history of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority:

Founded: 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The sorority is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by black American college-trained women.

Incorporated: 1913.

The original group: Anna Easter Brown, Beulah Burke, Lillie Burke, Marjorie Hill, Margaret Flagg Holmes, Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, Lavinia Norman, Lucy Slowe and Marie Woolfolk Taylor.

Colors: Pink and green.
