Rondinelli beats Sugar in Class B


R&J Trucking defeated Wharmby in another game at Cene Park.

STRUTHERS — In a battle of the two Class B League division leaders, Rondinelli Tuxedo scored five runs in the first two innings and went on to post a 8-3 victory over Dave Sugar Excavating Friday at Cene Park.

Jimmy Kinnick (1-0) of Rondinelli (20-3) worked the first six innings and struck out seven for the win. Drew Fitzpatrick picked up his first save of the season and he hit a double. Corey Hill hit a double and drove in two runs. Phil Double hit a pair of singles.

Travis Richey gave up seven hits for Dave Sugar (17-6).

R J Trucking 8, Wharmby Sports 1

STRUTHERS — R J Trucking (16-7) collected 13 hits in cruising to the victory over Wharmby Sports. Mike Popio, Evan Campbell, Steve McNeely and Brad Byers each had two hits. Matt Pitzullo and Campbell drove in two runs apiece.

Nick Timko (3-1) scattered three hits with three strikeouts to pick up the win. Brian Szabo hit a pair of singles for Wharmby Sports (7-16).

Class AA

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Metros defeated Penn-Ohio, 6-3, in a game at Pemberton/Donnell Park Thursday.

Singles by Armani Johnson and Eric Pirtz, a walk, sacrifice, two errors and a single by Mike Hoelzel gave the Metros a 3-0 lead in the first inning and they added a run in each of the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

Joe Fox worked five innings, allowed only three hits and struck out four to pick up the win. Joe Irwin hit a double and single. Matt Yarab hit a double and drove in two runs.
