MLB ROUNDUP Friday’s other games

INTERLEAGUE

Mets 15, Yankees 6

NEW YORK — Carlos Delgado set a Mets club record with nine RBIs in the opener of a rare two-stadium Subway Series doubleheader. Delgado had a two-run double in the fifth inning off Edwar Ramirez, then hit his 12th career grand slam in the sixth, a drive against Ross Ohlendorf that landed in one of the last rows of bleachers in right-center. Delgado added a three-run homer in the eighth off LaTroy Hawkins.

Yankees 9, Mets 0

NEW YORK — Sidney Ponson pitched a gem in his return to the Yankees. Bobby Abreu went 4-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs and Ponson outpitched Pedro Martinez with six shutout innings.

Red Sox 6, Astros 1

HOUSTON — Daisuke Matsuzaka limited the Astros to two hits in five scoreless innings and the Boston Red Sox won their first-ever regular season game in Houston. J.D. Drew hit a three-run homer and Mike Lowell added a two-run single in the ninth for the Red Sox. Matsuzaka (9-1) fanned the first three Astros he faced Friday.

White Sox 10, Cubs 3

CHICAGO — Nick Swisher’s grand slam capped a seven-run third inning against Ryan Dempster. The Cubs, who swept the White Sox at Wrigley Field last weekend by a combined score of 22-11, had won six straight against the White Sox and nine of the previous 10.

Braves 4, Blue Jays 0

TORONTO — Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer and Jair Jurrjens pitched a career-high eight innings in Atlanta’s victory. Jurrjens (8-3) allowed just three hits — all singles — and didn’t allow a runner to reach second base. He turned it over to Mike Gonzalez for the ninth.

Tigers 7, Rockies 1

DETROIT — Eddie Bonine (2-0) limited Colorado to five hits over eight innings in his third major league start. Curtis Granderson was 4-for-5 with two triples for Detroit, which has won three straight, 14 of its last 18 and is one game under .500 for the first time since May 1. The Tigers have a chance to climb to .500 for the first time all season Saturday night.

Nationals 4, Orioles 2

WASHINGTON — Pinch-hitter Kory Casto doubled in the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning and scored on a single by Elijah Dukes to carry the Nationals to their second straight win following a four-game skid. With the score 2-all, Willie Harris led off the seventh for Washington with a walk off Daniel Cabrera (5-4). Casto followed with a double to left, and one out later Dukes hit an RBI single.

Royals 7, Cardinals 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Alex Gordon drove in four runs with a homer and a bases-loaded double and Kansas City won for the 11th time in 12 games. Gordon’s solo shot off Joel Pineiro (2-4) put the Royals on top 5-0 in the fifth en route to their sixth straight win. David DeJesus had a two-run double off reliever Ron Villone as the Royals notched their longest win streak since opening the 2003 season 9-0.
