YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County grand jury has indicted a woman recently sentenced to two years in prison for a Canfield home burglary on a new charge of breaking and entering into a New Middletown restaurant.

Joanne Douglas, 40, of the Marysville Reformatory, formerly of Youngstown, was indicted Thursday in a Dec. 31 or Jan. 1 break-in at the DeChellis Restaurant in New Middletown.

On June 13, Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court sentenced Douglas to two years in Marysville after she pleaded guilty to a Jan. 30 burglary at the Bradford Drive home of Darlene DeChellis, where Douglas had been a cleaning woman.

Police said Douglas helped her brother-in-law, John Douglas, 35, of Youngstown, and Richard Cummings, 35, of Lynn Avenue, plan the home burglary based on her knowledge of DeChellis’ routines.

On June 12, Judge Krichbaum sentenced John Douglas and Cummings to prison for 36 months and 18 months, respectively, after they pleaded guilty to the home burglary and restaurant break-in.

Police said DeChellis came home unexpectedly, surprised John Douglas inside and chased him to his getaway car, where Cummings waited behind the wheel.

In another case, the grand jury indicted Brian E. Chuey, 42, of Selkirk Avenue on charges of theft and receiving stolen property.

The theft charge alleges Chuey stole between $500 and $5,000 worth of steel May 19 from the Coronado Steel Co. The charge of receiving stolen property alleges he received between $5,000 and $100,000 worth of stolen brass, copper and other metals from that company.
