Humility in leadership will be topic for forum

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Revisioning Humility: Imagining New Ways of Leadership, a forum July 25 and 26, will feature internationally known anthropologist, educator and award-winning author Angeles Arrien. Her keynote address will focus on humility in politics, society, human relationships, spirituality and governance at all levels.

The conference at Villa Maria Community Center, sponsored by the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, will include insights from Dr. Arrien’s extensive work in effective leadership, cross-cultural empowerment and culture studies. The conference will explore the cross-cultural tools that are most commonly used to enhance leadership effectiveness both personally and professionally. Participants will explore the six universal steps to success, four skills to resolve conflict effectively for mutual gain, how to build and maintain self-trust and humility through cross-cultural empowerment tools and how to foster collaboration and use team-building skills.

On July 25, registration at 7 p.m. and presentation by Arrien at 7:30 will be followed by a question-and-answer session and book signing. On July 26, there will be registration and a light breakfast at 8 a.m., introduction and opening ritual at 9, presentation by Arrien at 9:15, break at 10:30, presentation and discussion at 10:45, lunch at noon followed by a book signing, presentation at 1 p.m., small-group discussion at 3:30 and closing ritual and book signing at 4.

Overnight accommodations and reservations are limited. Registration deadline is July 3. Participants are welcome to attend the July 25 lecture for $25 or the July 26 workshop for $90. A discounted fee of $105 will include both presentations and on July 26, a light breakfast, lunch and snacks. Student rates for the July 26 workshop only are $60 per person. Groups of five students can register for $55 each, and accompanying faculty can register for $85 each. Overnight accommodations are also available.
