Bill Boyle will stay with the county as a part-time employee until the end of the year.

MERCER, Pa. — Mercer County commissioners have hired Jennifer Hamilton as county Human Resource Director.

Hamilton, a Mercer native, was chosen out of 36 applicants, six of whom were interviewed, commissioners said.

A 1993 graduate of Mercer High School, Hamilton earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and an elementary education certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked as a teacher for one year and then as human resource director of IMR Inc., Medina, Ohio, for six years.

She said she is glad to be back in the area and “proud to be part of Mercer County government.” She will make $44,006 annually.

Hamilton will start Monday, taking over part of the duties of Bill Boyle, the director of administrative services, who retires at the end of July.

Commissioners also announced at their Thursday meeting that Boyle will stay on part time as director of administrative services beginning Aug. 4 until the end of the year.

They agreed to hire him for an average 15 hours per week at a pro-rated annual fee of $15,000.

Commissioner Brian Beader said Boyle’s knowledge is so valuable, they want to keep him as a part-time employee until a replacement is found. They plan to eventually hire a full-time director of administrative services.

Commissioners also approved contracts for replacement of two bridges. Quality Engineering Solutions, Conneaut Lake, will be paid $279,175 to replace a bridge on Clay Furnace Road in Jefferson Township. The project will start July 14 and is expected to be completed Oct. 27, county Engineer Mark Miller said. Costs will be paid from liquid fuels money.

Also, Shingledecker’s Welding Inc., Franklin, was awarded a contract to replace a bridge on McCartney Road, Fairview Township for $235,013. Funding will be 80 percent federal and 20 percent local. Construction will start July 21 and expected completion is Oct. 20.

Commissioners also hired two people for the Domestic Relations Department. Gloria Mackaly of Sharon will be paid $12.33 hourly as an intake officer and Shannon McConnell will be paid $26,409 annually as a conference officer.

In the salary board portion of the meeting, commissioners created a part-time position in the micrographics department effective June 30 at a starting rate of $10.42 hourly. They said the position is needed because there is currently no backup for the sole employee of the micrographics department.

They entered an agreement with Leigh Blakley of Grove City to clean the new District Justice building at 574 Barkeyville Road at $3,000 per year beginning Tuesday. The contract will be pro-rated for the remainder of the year.

Commissioners also approved annual agreements with various service providers for Mercer County Mental Health/Mental Retardation in the amount of $21.2 million effective Tuesday. The providers charge varying rates for their services.
