Two Route 11 rest areas to be closed for repairs
NORTH LIMA — Two rest areas on state Route 11 will be closed from Monday until Oct. 31 for repairs. The Ohio Department of Transportation will close the stations, located four miles north of the Mahoning-Columbiana line, to repair sidewalks, curbs and parking lots.
ODOT spokeswoman Paula Putnam said the stations’ walkways are a liability; two people have filed complaints with the department after suffering injuries on the sidewalks.
ODOT must finalize costs, estimated between $180,000 and $240,000, before accepting bids. Putnam said closing the stations will prevent further incidents on the properties and will allow work to be completed sooner.
Police still seek robber
HUBBARD — Police continue looking for the man who committed a robbery early this week at the IGA Supermarket on West Liberty Street.
Police said a man in his early 20s came into the store at 8:30 p.m. Sunday and eventually walked to the checkout line. He gave the cashier money to pay for a package of candy. After scanning the item, the cash drawer opened and the suspect reached over and grabbed all the 50 and 20 dollar bills, then ran from the store.
A witness later told police she saw a man fitting the description of the thief running and cutting through a neighbor’s yard. The store’s video system was reviewed and showed the would-be thief walking around in the store about 10 minutes before the robbery.
