MLB ROUNDUP Wednesday’s other games

INTERLEAGUE

Red Sox 5, Diamondbacks 0

BOSTON — In a matchup for the aged, 41-year-old Tim Wakefield outpitched 44-year-old Randy Johnson. And it was the youngest player in Boston’s lineup, 24-year-old rookie Brandon Moss, who drove in the two runs Johnson allowed.

Reds 6, Blue Jays 5, 10 innings

TORONTO — Jay Bruce drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning and Ken Griffey hit his 602nd career home run for Cincinnati. Toronto reliever Brian Wolfe (0-2) began the 10th by walking Norris Hopper and Paul Janish and both runners advanced when David Ross sacrificed. Left-hander Jesse Carlson came on to face the left-handed Bruce, who hung in against the tough southpaw to loft a fly ball to left that easily produced a run. Jared Burton (4-1) worked two scoreless innings for the win and Francisco Cordero closed it out for his 15th save as the Reds won for just the third time in 10 games.

Mets 8, Mariners 2

NEW YORK — David Wright homered in his first two at-bats a night after getting his first day off this season, helping John Maine and New York rebound from two lackluster losses to lowly Seattle.

Rays 15, Marlins 3

MIAMI — Carl Crawford had two home runs and a career-high five RBIs, and the first nine Tampa Bay batters reached and scored in what became a 10-run fifth inning. Evan Longoria had three hits, including his 13th homer, and drove in three runs for the Rays. James Shields (5-5) allowed four hits, one run and struck out five over seven innings, getting his first win in eight starts for the Rays.

Nationals 5, Angels 4

WASHINGTON — Jesus Flores lined an RBI single to right-center with one out in the bottom of the ninth to give Washington the victory. The Nationals snapped a four-game losing streak and ended the Angels’ five-game winning streak.

Rangers 3, Astros 2

HOUSTON — Max Ramirez got his first two major league hits and the second one — a two-run homer — gave Texas the win. Before the game, Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon was indefinitely suspended after he reportedly grabbed Houston general manager Ed Wade by the neck and threw him to the ground.

Cubs 7, Orioles 4

CHICAGO — Geovany Soto drove in three runs, Jim Edmonds homered and Chicago jumped on spot starter Matt Albers early. Jay Payton hit a pair of two-run homers off Chicago starter Ted Lilly (8-5) to lead the Orioles. Carlos Marmol pitched the eighth and Kerry Wood struck out the side in the ninth for his 20th save in 24 chances.

Royals 4, Rockies 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Luke Hochevar pitched a career-high eight innings and Ross Gload drove in two runs as Kansas City won its fifth straight. The last-place Royals swept the series and improved the majors’ best interleague record to 12-3.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Braves 4, Brewers 2

ATLANTA — Kelly Johnson drove in three runs to back Jorge Campillo, and banged-up Atlanta avoided getting swept in the three-game series. Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar missed the game after jamming his left shoulder during Tuesday night’s 4-3 loss. His replacement, Omar Infante, left in the second inning after straining his right hamstring while running out a double. Chipper Jones struck out in the eighth as a pinch hitter.
