Arrest made in school robbery case

STAFF REPORT

WARREN — A 21-year-old Warren man wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a city school will appear today in a Nevada court after his arrest there.

Timothy Anderson was taken into custody about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday by the U.S. Marshal Service outside an apartment complex in Henderson, about a half-hour drive southeast of Las Vegas.

Anderson is in the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas on a fugitive from justice warrant and will appear in the Clark County Justice Court.

He is accused of stealing $11,000 in tuition money June 16 from the staff of Lincoln Elementary on Atlantic Street. The day of the robbery was the day to register for summer school.

Warren police Lt. Gary Vingle and Detective Wayne Mackey said Wednesday they didn’t know if any of the stolen money was recovered.

Mackey explained that authorities in Nevada obtained a search warrant for an apartment in which Anderson was staying. Anderson was identified through a school security camera.

Peter J. Elliott of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force said marshals and Warren police launched an “intense” investigation to find and arrest Anderson.

Investigators were able to determine that Anderson traveled to Nevada on a Greyhound bus after the robbery. This information was provided to the marshal’s office in Las Vegas, which began investigating associates of Anderson who were known to reside in the Las Vegas area.

Members of the marshal’s Fugitive Investigation Strike Team arrested him at the apartment complex. Two other people have been charged for assisting Anderson while he was a fugitive, Elliott said.
