Tuxedo snaps Falcons’ streak
Youngstown Express and Rondinelli posted late Monday victories.
STRUTHERS — Rondinelli Tuxedo took advantage of 10 walks by Astro Falcon pitchers to snap Astro’s eight-game winning streak, 8-3, in a Class B League game Tuesday at Cene Park.
Marc Kanetsky hit a pair of singles and drove home three runs for Rondinelli (18-3). Mark Carlozzi (2-0) allowed three earned runs on five hits in the complete game win. Losing pitcher Trent Vallinger (0-1) had a run-scoring hit for Astro Falcons (14-7).
Youngstown Express 4, Action Physical Therapy 3
STRUTHERS — Youngstown Express took a 4-0 lead by the end of Monday’s fourth inning, then held off a late rally by Action Physical Therapy.
Sam Porter hit a double and two singles, drove in two runs, while Jordan Senchek added two hits for the Express. Zach Struharik (1-2) went five innings with five strikeouts to get the win. Kyle Jones pitched the final two innings for the save.
Josh Dailey (0-5) went the distance for Action. Todd Gaisor hit a double and three singles and Mike Backes hit a pair of singles.
Rondinelli 7, Wharmby 3
STRUTHERS — Jamie Shepard’s bases-loaded double drove home three runs for Rondinelli in the third inning late Monday.
He also hit a single while Cory McGinnis (4-1) pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts to pick up the win. Mike Tomko had two hits, one his league leading sixth triple for Wharmby, which saw a three-game winning streak end.
Warren AA League
WARREN — John St. John (3-1) pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts as the Champion Marlins shut out Trumbull County Predators 2-0.
The Marlins (9-5), in third place in the Caffie Division standings, got the two runs in sixth inning as Mike Sweeney singled and stole second. After Lance Townsend walked, Tom Popadak’s single scored Sweeney and Jason Johnson drove in Townsend.
The Predators (1-9) are last in the Dorchock Division.
Elite Shockers 7, P.I. I. Express 1
WARREN — The Shockers (9-3), who lead the Caffie Division, scored two runs in the first, third and fourth innings to prevail in a contest at MacGregor Field. Jeremy Krol (4-1) scattered four hits with eight strikeouts to pick up the win. Mike Witherow hit a double and single and Mike Johnson hit a pair of singles.
