Small Ships Revue to set sail on Friday

SHARON, Pa. — The 28th annual Small Ships Revue will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Quaker Steak Lube.

The revue is a build-your-own-boat regatta.

After a prelaunch parade through downtown, the ships will make their way to the Shenango River for the 7 p.m. launch time.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place as well as in categories such as “unique” and “most patriotic.” Local celebrities will be judges.

More than $5,000 in cash and prizes, including $1,000 for the first-place crew, will be awarded.

The Hern Brothers will appear on the main stage and Pipedreams will be at the Sugar Shack starting at 8 p.m.

Fireworks will begin at 10:15 p.m.

Street closings from 6 to 7 p.m. are State Street, from Railroad Avenue to the State Street bridge; Shenango Avenue, from State to Silver streets; Pitt Street, from Shenango to Railroad avenues; Silver Street, from Railroad to Penn avenues; and Penn Avenue, from Silver Street to Rose Court.

West Connelly Boulevard, from Railroad to Water avenues, and Chestnut Street, from East Connelly Boulevard to the entrance of the Chestnut Street parking lot, will be closed from 7 to 11 p.m. They will reopen after the fireworks.
