BOARDMAN — The SJK Charitable Fund and the Kennedy Foundation, both of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, have each donated $50,000 to Boardman Park.
The donation will be used specifically for the creation of a patio garden as part of the renovations to the Boardman Park Community Center, which is more than 30 years old and long overdue for upgrades and renovations, said Dan Slagle, executive director of Boardman Park.
The donation has been added to the park’s capital campaign to raise $2.3 million for improvements to the park. Renovations to the community center are just one part of a plan to complete six other projects that include installing public restrooms at the Maag Theater and building a high/low ropes challenge course, which, when completed, would be the first public course of its kind in Mahoning County, Slagle said.
“The donation is a huge amount of money for the campaign, and we’re deeply appreciative,” he said.
