MINERAL RIDGE — The Weathersfield school board has approved an increase in the cost of meals at all three district buildings for the 2008-09 school year.

Breakfast prices will be increased by 25 cents and be: Seaborn Elementary, from $75 cents to $1; middle school, from $1 to $1.25; and high school, from $1 to $1.25.

Lunch prices will be increased as follows: Seaborn, from $1.85 to $2; middle school, from $2.10 to $2.25; and the high school, $2.40 to $2.50.

The board also approved a transfer of $10,000 from the general fund to the athletic fund. It’s part of a commitment made last summer that the board would pay $10,000 a year for the next three years to pay off a $30,000 repair to the football field made in 2007, Treasurer Laurena Rouan explained.

The board also added three new courses for the high school for the 2008-09 school year, including: journalism in the English department, ACT/SAT preparation in the math department and financial planning in the business department.

The board also renewed an agreement with the Northeast Ohio Management Information Network for a year from July 1 to June 30, 2009, at a cost of $15,345. The service computerizes district grading records.

The renewal of participation in the Lorain County Cooperative Purchasing Association for the 2008-09 school year at a cost not to exceed $650 was also approved. The treasurer said she polled secretarial staff who reported they felt the type and amount of supplies they received through the consortium was satisfactory.

The board will meet in special session at 6 p.m. June 30 at the middle school library to review the certificate of estimated resources and approve a permanent appropriation for fiscal year 2008 and a temporary appropriation for fiscal year 2009.

The board also accepted a donation of 52 hardback books from board member Marilyn Besoiu. She said the books included historical, fiction and nonfiction.
