Conkey’s double gives Roth lift in AA


Sunday’s Class B League games at Cene Park were rained out and will be made up on Thursday.

YOUNGSTOWN — Josh Conkey’s double knocked in George Rohan and Mike Sikorski in the fourth inning to ignite Roth Brothers’ 3-0 win over Youngstown Metros in Class AA League action at Oakland Field.

Rohan’s double led off the fourth, followed by Sikorski, who walked.

Roth’s third run was scored in the seventh inning when Joe Bettura’s single scored Jonathan Habuda, who had doubled.

In the seventh, Habuda was inserted as the designated-hitter. Despite giving up eight hits, Habuda also picked up the victory.

Eric Pirtz and Joe Irwin both had two singles for Metros.

Tri-State Collegiate

YOUNGSTOWN — Luke Sutton had two doubles and two RBIs for Shannon Fence, which took a 5-0 lead before defeating the Youngstown Metros, 6-4, in Tri-State Collegiate action at Pemberton-Donnell Park.

Of Metros’ nine hits, Dane Dobson had two singles while Armani Johnson, C.J. Morris, Anthony Porter, Jim Pasquine, Chester Kirkwood, Josh Gardner and Dom Sylvestry had one apiece.

Shannon Fence 6, Metros 3

Despite Shannon Fence’s 14 hits, Youngstown Metros remained close on the scoreboard.

Matt Wantz had a double and two singles while Chad Ulogar, Kyle Shrefer and Mike Weibley had two hits apiece. One of Weibley’s hits was a double.

For Metros, Armani Johnson, Joe Iacobucci, Jim Pasquine and Dom Sylvestry had a single apiece, while Joe Irwin doubled.
