YOUNGSTOWN — The American Red Cross Mahoning Chapter is offering baby sitter training from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, to 10- to 15-year-olds in Youngstown City Schools.

Those children have the chance to become certified baby sitters once they complete the course.

The course includes seven hours of training, a baby sitter handbook, Red Cross T-shirt, and pen and 20 business cards for certified baby sitters.

Benefit motorcycle run

AUSTINTOWN — The 18th annual Fred Perry Benefit Motorcycle Run for Kids is set to take place Aug. 17 starting at Mike’s Lounge, 5532 Mahoning Ave.

Since 1990, the Fred Perry Benefit has donated money to local children in need.

The registration fee is $10 per person, and riders can sign up from 10 a.m. to noon the day of the benefit or through preregistration, which can be done at Warren Harley-Davidson, 2102 Elm Road, Bazetta; Youngstown Harley Davidson, 4478 Boardman-Canfield Road, Canfield; and Mike’s Lounge.

Routes for the ride are given out the day of the benefit and the first bike out will start at 1 p.m.

Ride tickets now on sale

McDONALD — Advance ride tickets for the annual firefighters’ Homecoming Festival, July 2-5, are now available.

Tickets are $5 a sleeve, which includes four tickets, and advance ticket holders can ride for one ticket per ride. Tickets sold on the festival grounds take three or four tickets per ride. Rides are by Brown Amusements this year.

Advance tickets are on sale at the municipal building, Ianazone’s Pizza, McDonald Community Federal Credit Union and Steve’s Service.

Rides are open from 6 to 11 p.m. daily.

The homecoming starts with a parade at 6 p.m. July 2 down Ohio Avenue, and ends with fireworks by Zambelli’s at 11 p.m. July 5.

Senator to be speaker

COLUMBIANA — Ohio Sen. Jason Wilson, D-30th, will be the featured speaker at the Fairfield Township Ruritan Meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Heck’s Restaurant in Columbiana.

“We have asked the senator to address some timely issues, matters of concerns to all area citizens,” said Wayne Holtom, club president. “Therefore, we have decided to open this meeting to anyone who would like to attend and meet the senator.”

The dinner will be $10, and the program is free to anyone who would like to hear him. Reservations are required by calling (330) 482-2561.

The 2008 graduates selected for scholarships from Columbiana High, Crestview High and Heartland Christian Academy will also be announced at the meeting.

Weekly farmers’ market

EAST PALESTINE — The East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce is having a weekly farmers’ market July 3 through Oct. 30 in the parking lot of the Centenary United Methodist Church on South Market Street.

Hours are 3 to 8 p.m. A variety of home-grown and home-produced items will be sold by local vendors. Opening day will feature face painting.
