Rondinelli short on hits, but Switka’s arm strong


STRUTHERS — Rondinelli Tuxedo managed just five hits, but took advantage of seven errors by the Youngstown Express that led to five unearned runs in Friday’s 8-3 victory in Class B action at Cene Park.

Robert Switka tossed a complete game for the win, his second on the season as he struck out eight and allowed two earned runs.

Cory Hill drove home two runs for Rondinelli (16-3).

Kyle Jones had a pair of singles as did Dean Porter for the Express (4-15).

Astro Falcons 11, Simon 0

The Astro Falcons avenged two defeats to Simon. Mark Lapikas had two triples while Shane Wagner, T.J. Rosenberg, Trent Vallinger and Philip Woods added two hits for Astro (13-6).

Jared Turocy allowed two hits in winning his first game after three losses.

Mike Vitucci had a double for Simon (12-7).

R J Trucking 2, Livi Steel 1

NILES — At Wilder Park, a sacrifice fly by Matt Pitzulo in the bottom of the sixth inning drove home the go-ahead run for R J Trucking (13-5).

Scott Smith (2-1) scattered five hits in improving his mark while Mike Heller had two hits.

Zack McGhee (2-3) suffered the loss as he allowed just hits and struck out four for Livi (10-9).

Rain

Saturday’s games were rained out.

Tuesday, Rondinelli Tuxedo will play Astro Falcons at 6 p.m. on Cene 1 and Dave Sugar Excavating will take on R J Trucking when the first game ends.

When Saturday’s storms arrived, Roth Brothers had a 5-0 lead on Action Physical Therapy in the seventh inning.

Roth’s Robert Goeke retired the first 19 batters before giving up a single to Jake Yatsko.

Simon Roofing was leading the Youngstown Express, 5-2, in the sixth inning.

Wharmby Sports won 7-0 by forfeit over Livi Steel.
