Indians unable to sweep Dodgers

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Russell Martin capped a four-run first inning with a two-run homer and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Cleveland Indians 4-3 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep in the first series between the teams at Chavez Ravine.

Chad Billingsley (6-7) allowed three runs and eight hits in five innings for the Dodgers, throwing 108 pitches. He hit Shin-Soo Choo in the first and David Dellucci in the third.

The Indians have been plunked a major league-high 54 times. Last season, opposing pitchers hit 80 Cleveland batters to set a franchise record.

Hong-Chih Kuo, Joe Beimel and Jonathan Broxton each pitched an inning before Takashi Saito finished for his 11th save in 14 attempts.
