Lake’s warning lifted

BAZETTA — A water quality warning at Mosquito Lake State Park, issued last weekend about swimming due to a high reading for E. coli bacteria, has been lifted. A park spokeswoman said Thursday that a test conducted this week found that the reading for the bacteria was far below state standards.

Michael Grammer, park manager, said that test readings of above 235 colony-forming units of E. coli per 100 milliliters of water is considered unsafe. The last reading before the warning was 9,400. The spokeswoman said the latest reading is 40, thus the warning was lifted.

Grammer had speculated that something was wrong with the testing equipment.

BOARDMAN — A township man was charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.

Police were called about 10 a.m. Wednesday to Lockwood Boulevard on a report of a car being driven on its wheel rim. An officer followed gouge marks in the asphalt to a driveway where a man, later identified as Ryan Ricciuti, 21, of Spring Park Drive, ran from the car, a police report said.

The car, a purple Ford Probe, had been reported stolen during a robbery in Youngstown, the report said. Ricciuti ran toward the rear of the Lockwood house and was caught trying to cross a fence.

Teen is road rage victim

BOARDMAN — A Poland teenager told police he was a victim of road rage when another driver pulled a gun on him.

The 17-year-old said he was driving on U.S. Route 224 near East Golf Drive about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday when he passed a pickup truck that was sitting at the entrance of a doctor’s office.

After the vehicle behind the teen’s car let the truck leave the parking lot onto Route 224, the truck driver, a man in his late 40s, pulled up next to the victim and yelled for him to roll down the window. The teen did so, and the truck driver pointed a handgun at him, asking “What now?” according to police reports.

The victim put his hands up and his passenger ducked down, but neither saw the truck’s license plate number as it did a U-turn and traveled east on Route 224.
