Astros pound out 14 hits to post 7-2 win in ‘B’ loop


Wharmby Sports and Simon Roofing won late games on Wednesday.

STRUTHERS — The Astro Falcons pounded out 14 hits to defeat Roth Brothers, 7-2, Thursday at Cene Park in Class B action.

Shane Wagner, T.J. Rosenberg, Mike Natale and winning pitcher Mark Lapikas had two hits apiece for Astro (12-6). Lapikas went five innings with seven strikeouts to pick up the win.

Roth Brothers (5-12) had 12 hits with Dustin Uhlman, Pat Mulligan, Kevin Monti and Adam Hall each with two.

Roth Brothers left 13 players stranded on the bases.

Wharmby Sports 6, Action Physical Therapy 1

STRUTHERS — Ross Lopez hit three singles as Wharmby Sports (5-3) won its second straight game pn Wednesday.

Dustin Guyer tossed four innings of two-hit scoreless relief for the win. Josh Dailey (0-4) allowed only two unearned runs with eight strikeouts as he went the distance for Action (0-18).

Simon Roofing 6, Roth Brothers 0

STRUTHERS — Brad Bates (3-1) pitched a five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to pick up the win. Simon (12-6) won despite having only four hits off Roth (5-11) loser Pat Mulligan (2-3), who struck out 10.

Matt Durkin hit a single and a double for Simon.

Class AA Youngstown Metros 6, Penn-Ohio 4

YOUNGSTOWN — Eric Pirtz tripled, doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Metros in a Youngstown Class AA League game Wednesday at Pemberton Park.

Joe Iacobucci hit a pair of singles and drove in two runs and Mat Yarab also drove in two runs. Cameron Anderson and Alex Oles combined to pitch a two-hitter. Anderson struck out six to pick up the win and Oles struck out four for a save.

Elite Shockers 4, Mahoning Valley Knights 3

WARREN — Mike Johnson hit a home run in the 10th inning for the Elite Shockers who lead the Dorchok Division in the Warren AA League with a 7-3 record.

Mahoning Valley Knights, in losing for the second straight time, still lead the Caffie Division with a 9-2 record. Flex Strut (8-3) and Champion Marlins (8-4) are close behind.

Kyle Pitt his a pair of singles for the Shockers while Mike Witherow and Tony Pozega hit a double apiece.

Brian Daugherty hit a pair of singles for the Knights.
