Swimming warning lifted at Mosquito Lake

BAZETTA – A water quality warning at Mosquito Lake State Park, issued last weekend about swimming due to a high reading for E. coli bacteria in the water has been lifted. A park spokeswoman said Thursday that a test conducted this week found that the reading for the bacteria was far below state standards.

Michael Grammer, park manager, said that test readings of above 235 colony-forming units of E. coli per 100 milliliters of water is considered unsafe. The last reading before the warning was 9,400. The spokeswoman said the latest reading is 40, thus the warning was lifted. Grammer had speculated that something was wrong with the testing equipment.
