Holy Trinity to host Juneteenth event

YOUNGSTOWN — Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliffe Ave., will have its sixth annual Juneteenth community celebration of deliverance from 11 a.m. to dusk June 27-29.

The celebration will feature a performance at 5 p.m. June 28 by the Distinguished Gentlemen of Cleveland. The 20-member troupe involves inner-city young men, ages 8-18, who perform prose and poetry selections in a hip-hop approach. They have garnered national acclaim for their motivational presentations.

The event will highlight the church’s partnership with Mahoning County Children Services Board’s One Church-One Child Foster and Adoption Initiative.

The three-day event will include amusement rides, live entertainment, bake-off contests, storytelling, clowns, face painting, a mobile health clinic, radio remotes, line dancing contests, ethnic foods, African American products and access to services by area nonprofit organizations.

The planning committee is still seeking participants interested in being a vendor and entertainment venue. For information, contact Cynthia Little, event coordinator, (330) 788-1696.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and emphasizes education and achievement.
