AG’s office to negotiate

COLUMBUS (AP) — The attorney general’s office has offered to negotiate with two women whose sexual harassment complaints against a top aide led to the resignation of former Attorney General Marc Dann of Liberty.

Cindy Stankoski and Vanessa Stout seek a combined $875,000 in damages and attorney’s fees. An internal investigation has substantiated their claims that they were harassed by Dann’s general services chief Anthony Gutierrez.

In a Monday letter to the women’s attorney, Dann’s successor Nancy Rogers says the office is willing to engage in mediation on the matter.

Streets closed to trucks

STRUTHERS — Fifth Street between Spring and Creed streets has been closed to trucks with more than two axles or a gross weight of more than 10 tons because of a weakened culvert.

Businesses on Fifth with addresses above 760 are asked to contact their delivery companies and advise them to bring deliveries in from the south and exit in that direction.

Deliveries to addresses on Fifth of 700 or lower are to come in from the north and exit in the same direction.

Safety Service Director Edward H. Wildes said the culvert is safe for all other traffic. He said the new weight limit will be enforced by police.

Armed robbery of school

WARREN — Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Monday at Lincoln Elementary School on Atlantic Street.

Police said a black man, about 5 feet 8 inches and wearing a black backpack, walked into the school about 1:15 p.m. with a handgun and took from those working at the school what they described as tuition money in the “low five figures.” The robber escaped on foot.

Motion filed at pretrial

AUSTINTOWN — The attorney for the Warren man who accidentally backed over a blind pedestrian several weeks ago filed a motion at his pre- trial Monday afternoon to suppress and dismiss evidence in the case.

Clement Davis, 63, pleaded innocent to a misdemeanor II charge of vehicular manslaughter last week. Clement’s attorney also filed a motion for a jury trial.

Anthony Latosky, 29, of Austintown, was killed May 30 when Davis accidentally hit him with his garbage truck as he backed out of a private driveway.

A second pretrial is set for 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Mahoning County Court.

Park records custodian

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mill Creek MetroParks Board of Commissioners approved a new public records policy in which a park employee will be the park’s records custodian.

Dave Christy, administrative services director/treasurer, told the board Monday the major change to the policy is that all board members are now required to take a three-hour training course on public records through the state attorney general’s office. The board chose the option, however, of appointing a records custodian to take the course in its place.

Board members chose Christy. He has responsibility for all the park’s police records.

Ellen Speicher, assistant horticulture director, gave a presentation about what goes into recording the plants in Fellows Riverside Gardens. The gardens are home to more than 10,000 different types of plants. Once done by hand, recording is now done by computer software, she said, which makes the process less tedious and more accurate.
