Parade will honor national sports figures from New Castle
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — City natives Mark Mangino and Jack Zduriencik will be honored during a parade SaturdayJune 21 downtown.
Mayor Anthony Mastrangelo, along with other local officials, will participate in the festivities and recognize Mangino and Zduriencik for their accomplishments in sports.
Mangino, head football coach at Kansas, was named the 2007 Associated Press Coach of the Year as Kansas finished the season ranked No. 7 in the final AP and USA Today polls.
Zduriencik, special assistant to the general manager and director of amateur scouting for the Milwaukee Brewers, was named the 2007 Major League Baseball Executive of the Year — marking the first time the award was given to anyone other than a president or general manager.
The parade will start at 10 a.m. at Burger King and travel south to the bridge near the Riverwalk Park. Former Pittsburgh Pirates manager and Neshannock Township resident Chuck Tanner will emcee the event.
