Columbiana Co. logs its first killing of year

ELKTON — The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred about 5 a.m. Sunday in Elkrun Township.

The shooting took place at a residence. The victim was found dead in a vehicle a short distance from the home, the sheriff’s office said.

The death is this year’s first homicide in Columbiana County, according to Vindicator records.

The killing remains under investigation and the victim’s name is being withheld, pending notification of family, the department said.

The county prosecutor’s and coroner’s offices are aiding in the investigation.
