YOUNGSTOWN — Johnny King, 32, of the 900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, is in Mahoning County Jail charged with aggravated burglary, menacing by stalking and obstructing official business. Police were called at about 11:36 a.m. Saturday to Saranac Avenue, where they found King with bloody hands. He told police he had come to the residence to get his clothes. King ran away from police, who shortly afterward apprehended him in a wooded area on Saranac. The victim told police she heard breaking glass as he tried to break down the door and the suspect screaming he would kill her. The victim told police she and King had dated briefly and he had assaulted her.
City schools meetings
YOUNGSTOWN — The city school district will have two community meetings in August to inform the public about new programs and other changes for the coming school year. The sessions are set for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at East High School and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at Chaney High School.
Council meeting planned
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The city school board has scheduled an athletic council meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Board Room at the Croton Administration Building, 420 Fern St.
Hospital receives award
WARREN — Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital received an award for improving the quality of care at its inpatient facilities. The Insight Award for Clinical Performance was given to the hospital by business analyst Thomson Reuters for reducing the number of patient pressure ulcers.Thomson Reuters provides advice to health-care providers to reduce costs, improve performance and boost the quality of care. The award was given to only three hospitals in the country this year. Pressure ulcers, or bed sores, are viewed as an indicator of lengthy hospital stays and patient neglect.
Bikers for Vets ride
BUTLER, Pa. — The Butler County American Legion Riders will have their annual Bikers for Vets motorcycle ride July 19. Interested riders can register at the front entrance of the Butler VA Medical Center, 325 New Castle Road, beginning at 10 a.m. Everyone will leave promptly at 11:15 a.m. Participants will receive directions for the ride, which will be about 100 miles with checkpoints. The ride will end at the Lyndora American Legion Picnic Grove. There will be games, prizes, food, music and a Chinese auction. Donations will go to help the veterans in Butler County.
