WNBA ROUNDUP Saturday’s games
Shock 89, Mercury 79
PHOENIX — Rookie Tasha Humphrey scored a season-high 28 points to lead Detroit over Phoenix in a rematch of last year’s championship series. The game was the first between the teams since the Mercury beat Detroit in game five of the finals Sept. 16 to win the WNBA title. The former Georgia star was 10-of-15 shots from the floor and added eight rebounds to help the Shock (8-3) break a two-game losing streak. Cappie Pondexter led the Mercury (2-6) with 28 points.
Liberty 77, Lynx 76
NEW YORK — Cathrine Kraayeveld and Shameka Christon scored 13 points each to help New York hold off Minnesota. Janel McCarville had 12 points and Tiffany Jackson added 11 to help New York (5-4) get its fourth win in five games. Candice Wiggins scored 18 of her 26 points in the second half for Minnesota (6-4), which has lost four of five since a 5-0 start. Minnesota nearly came all the way back from a 16-point deficit in the final minute of the third quarter and had a chance to win as the clock wound down. Wiggins put up a shot that bounced off the rim and was knocked away and grabbed by Kraayeveld as time ran out.
