“Surviving History” (10 p.m., History): Some of mankind’s most creative devices are re-tested in this new weekly series, which tries to understand the past through its inventions. Master craftspeople from Scarefactory Inc. of Columbus rebuild elements of punishment or weaponry, and look at how and why they were created. The first episode examines the Middle Ages and the torture device known as the Iron Maiden, as well as fire arrows from ancient China.
