SCOPE Niles Senior Center, 14 E. State St., has the following activities scheduled: Tuesday,, Birds, Bugs and Butterflies class will meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the senior center; Wednesday, a free prescription safety program will be presented by Ron McDermott, of Hometown Pharmacies, for all seniors 50 and older from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a cost of $3; Wednesday a VIP luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to honor those 50 and over who celebrate birthdays or anniversaries in June. There will be a cookout menu with strawberry shortcake for dessert The cost is $5. Iva Clapper, 91, of Niles was the May luncheon VIP; Thursday, the monthly blood drive will be conducted by the American Red Cross from 1 to 6 p.m. Those donating blood through Sept. 1 will be entered in a drawing to win free gas for a year; and June 26, Learn to Line Dance classes for those 50 and older will resume. The classes are scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. and will continue each week throughout the summer.
Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following activities: Monday, Men’s and Women’s Needlecraft Club at 10 a.m., and bridge at 1; Tuesday, oil painting at 10 a.m., computer class at 10 and noon, and digital club at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, watercolor class at 10, Tai Chi at noon, and 500 cards at 1 p.m.; Thursday, woodcarvers and Watch Our Weight Club at 9 a.m., exercise at noon, and line dancing at 1 p.m.; and Friday, Texas Hold’em at 1 p.m. Special events include: New Middletown Fun Day on Tuesday, Lake Milton Fun Day on Wednesday, Boardman Fun Day on Thursday, and Sebring Fun Day on Friday. Home Energy Assistance Program applications are available at the center. The center has applications for the SBC telephone discount program of $12.38 per month for eligible applicants.
