Anniversary of ordination

YOUNGSTOWN — A Mass and dinner at Our Lady of Hungary Church, 545 N. Belle Vista Ave., will honor Monsignor Dezso Torok for the 60th anniversary of his ordination. A Mass is planned at noon June 29 with dinner to follow in Mindszenty Hall. The cost is $15, and children younger than 12 get in free with a paid reservation. Reservations are due by June 23. Labyrinth walk

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will present a guided labyrinth walk, “Path of Non-Violence,” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at its community center. The walk continues the 10-year anniversary celebration of the labyrinth. Melissa St. Thomas on the flute will provide musical accompaniment. Sister Therese Pavilonis will offer a brief history and introduction on the labyrinth, a geometric form that defines a sacred space. No registration is required, but it is appreciated. New Bethel anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN — New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., will celebrate its 84th anniversary at morning and afternoon services June 22. At 5 p.m., the Rev. Julius Davis and the congregation of Friendship Baptist Church in Girard will be guests. The theme is “Moving to New Levels of Anointing for Meaningful Ministry.”

New Bethel, which was organized in 1924, was located at 125 Manning Ave. and 209 Reserve St., before moving to its current location in 1964. Ground was broken for a new church Sept. 22, 2002, and dedicated Feb. 8, 2004. The Rev. Lonnie K.A. Simon became pastor in 1962 and served for 33 years before retiring. His son, the Rev. Kenneth L. Simon, became pastor in 1995.

Pastors United in Christ

YOUNGSTOWN — Pastors United in Christ will meet from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at McDonald’s restaurant parking lot, 2525 Market St., for singing, preaching, testimonials, praise, dancing, prayer and counseling. Performers will be God’s Promise, a praise dance group; Divine Soldiers, Gospel rap group from Akron; Nathaniel Burge and GHYPC of Cleveland; minister Mark Jackson and Final Call of Akron; Phrophet, gospel rap artist; and minister and soloist Pete Figueroa of Cleveland.

Groundbreaking at church

CANFIELD — Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main St., will have a groundbreaking Sunday after the 10 a.m. worship service. A potluck picnic will follow in the pavilion. The Rev. Carolyn Griffeth , interim pastor, will give the blessing. The motto is “Preserving the Past, Building Our Future.” The church is building a $2 million, 10,000-square-foot extension to the sanctuary that will be used as a great room. There will be new offices, an elevator and covered drive-through at a new main entrance.

Bible church school

WARREN — The Northwestern District Bible Church School Young People’s Holy Association and Ushers Department of the United Holy Church of America will have its convention June 26-29 at the House of Prayer United Holy Church, 2016 Wick St. S.E. The theme is “Grow Up!” There will be daily seminars, nightly services, children’s workshop and a concert June 27 with the Rev. Judah Early of Cleveland.

Youth program

YOUNGSTOWN — Hillman Church of Christ will have ice cream socials from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and June 28. At the events, youths between 12 and 17 years old may register for a new program, Youth Off the Streets, being sponsored by the church. The church also is starting other programs including Angel Food Ministries, tutoring, leadership, business skills, horticulture and spiritual values. YOUNGSTOWN — The Soul Winning Action Team of Mount Moriah Fire Baptized Holiness Church, 84 Bright Ave., will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at 20 Federal Plaza, also known as the Phar-Mor Building, West Federal Plaza.
