Six to compete at Midwest Meet


Seniors James Allen of East High, Evan Klepec of Boardman, T.J. Holland of McDonald, Audra Frimpong of Canfield, KaiCee Kubicina of Newton Falls and Sarah Brobeck of Salem will compete in the Midwest Meet of Champions all-star track and field meet Saturday at Jackson (Mich.) High School.

The six athletes were chosen by a coaches throughout Ohio for the meet with field events set for noon and running events at 1 p.m.

Allen won the 100-meter dash at the Division I state meet. He is entered in the 100 and 200 and the 4x100 relay.

Klepec, third in the discus at state, will compete at the Midwest Meet and then compete in the Nike Outdoor Championships next week in Greensboro, N.C.

Holland will compete for Ohio as part of its 4x800 relay. He was third in the Div. III state meet in the 800 (1:54.96).

Frimpong is entered in the long jump and 100 hurdles. She holds the Div. I regional record (19 feet, 5 inches).

Div. II girls are represented by a pair of throwers. Kubicina placed third in the shot put (40-111‚Ñ2) at state, while Brobeck placed third at state with a throw of 143-11.

Claude Holland of Div. I state champion Cleveland Heights is the Ohio boys coach and Eileen Grosse of Wilmington is in charge of the girls team.

Boardman coach Dave Pavlansky is the coordinator for both teams after serving as boys coach for three years.
