Liberty divulges chief’s ouster terms
Anthony Slifka will officially be retired Dec. 31 if he accepts the $41,000 agreement.
LIBERTY — Township trustees have released the terms of an agreement between trustees and outgoing Police Chief Anthony Slifka.
Slifka, who had been given a choice of resigning from his position with the township or being fired, reached the deal with trustees earlier this week.
His position has since been filled by Capt. Richard Tisone on a temporary basis.
Under the agreement, trustees and Slifka cannot make any public comments on Slifka’s time as chief, but the agreement has been made public. Terms of the agreement are as follows:
USlifka will be paid his regular salary continuously through Dec. 31.
UThe township shall maintain Slifka’s health insurance coverage through Dec. 31.
USlifka will forfeit any unused vacation leave balances and will not accrue any additional sick leave time.
USlifka will forfeit any unused personal days and will not accrue any additional personal days.
UThe township will provide Slifka with a positive letter of recommendation.
UUpon acceptance of the agreement, township officials and Slifka will refrain from any public comments regarding Slifka and his position as police chief other than acknowledging his employment tenure.
USlifka, if the above terms are accepted, will then retire from the department effective Dec. 31. Slifka will be offered the same benefits as any other retired member of the township police department.
The agreement was signed by Slifka, Trustee Jodi Stoyak, Trustee Jack Simon, Administrator Patrick Ungaro and a witness.
Trustee Gary Litch didn’t like the agreement and refused to sign it. Litch, who initiated the process to ask for Slifka’s resignation, said the terms of the agreement were unacceptable.
If Slifka had been terminated, the township would have to pay him about $21,500, Litch said, but under the agreement the township will pay Slifka more than $41,000.
Slifka’s annual salary is about $71,000.
