Smith, Berdis will be honored
YOUNGSTOWN — Ceremonies to honor Brad Smith and Ron Berdis being added to the Chaney Wall of Fame will be today at 6 p.m. in the high school’s event lobby. Tonight’s banquet has been postponed.
Smith, a wide receiver with the New York Jets, will conduct a football camp at Youngstown State University’s Stambaugh Stadium Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Archie back with Thunder
YOUNGSTOWN — Wide receiver Chris Archie has rejoined the Mahoning Valley Thunder and will play in tonight’s game against the Manchester Wolves at the Chevrolet Centre.
In 2007, Archie started in 11 games during the Thunder’s inaugural season. The 6-feet-4-inch, 218 pounder finished had 89 receptions for 1,010 yards and a team-leading 22 touchdowns. Archie’s six 100-yard receiving games are a Thunder record. He scored the Thunder’s first touchdown when Glen Gauntt found him in the end zone in the season opener versus Tri-Cities.
Archie, who played for the University of Cincinnati in college, is the Thunder career leader in points (132), 100 yard games (6) and touchdowns (22). He ranks second in receptions in a season (89), receptions in a game (13), and receiving yards (1,010).
Archie played in six games for the af2’s Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz earlier this season. In those games, Archie caught 31 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed twice for an additional 20 yards.
Track officials set banquet
BOARDMAN — The Greater Youngstown Track Officials Association will hold its annual awards banquet Monday at 6 p.m. at the Boardman Park Community Center.
Boardman’s Matt Moore and West Branch’s Nicole Culler will be named the organization’s cross country runners of the year for Mahoning County, while Lisbon’s Tyler Freeland and Salem’s Liz Shiver are the top runners for Columbiana County.
For track, East’s James Allen and Struthers’ Ashley Galbraith are the award winners for Mahoning County with Salem’s Sarah Brobeck and United’s Jordan Johnson taking the honors for Columbiana County.
Officials receiving service awards are Gary Dyke, Andrew Green, Phil Pillin, Rich Popio and Ed Votaw, all for 15 years. Becky Black (20 years), Bill Knight (25) and Ken Jakubec (35) are the other honorees.

Poland’s Mancini places second
TWINSBURG — Maria Mancini of Poland shot 46-48—94 to place second in the girls 12-15 division in the Plain Dealer North Coast Junior golf tournament at Gleneagles golf club. Talia Trovato of Mentor was first with 42-43—85.
Sharon Speedway to honor dads
HARTFORD — Five events are planned Saturday at Sharon Speedway.
Races are the Warren Harley-Davidson 410 Sprint Cars, the Gibson-Governor Insurance Agency Big Block Modifieds, the Tom’s Sewer and Drain Service E-Mods, the Tight Seal Glass Block Pure Stocks and the Limited Sprints.
The first 100 fathers admitted will receive a 10 percent discount coupon from Hovis Auto and Truck Supply. All other fathers in attendance will receive a “Candy Kiss” compliments of the Sharon Speedway.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at 4 p.m. The first green flag will wave at 6 p.m.
