First inning sets tone for Rondinelli’s Class B victory


Dave Patrick pitched a five-hit shutout with seven strikeouts for P.I. & I. of the Warren AA League.

STRUTHERS — Scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning was big as Rondinelli Tuxedo posted a 9-6 victory over Wharmby Sports in Class B League Wednesday at Cene Park.

Wharmby, behind 9-2, rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before Corey Hill of Rondinelli (11-2) came on in relief to stop the rally for his first safe of the season.

Cory Nesbitt and Drew Fitzpatrick paced Rondinelli with three hits apiece. Ross Lopez and Scott Harmon each had to hits for Wharmby (3-10).

Dave Sugar 5, Astro Falcons 3

STRUTHERS — Dave Sugar Excavating (10-3), trailing 3-2, scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to prevail. Pat O’Brien (2-1) went the first six innings for the win. He allowed just two earned runs with two strikeouts. Todd Kibby pitched the seventh for the save.

Justin Shaffer paced Sugar with two singles. Jared Turocy (0-3) went the first five-plus innings and suffered the defeat as he allowed four earned runs with three strikeouts for Astro (7-6).

Warren AA League

WARREN — The Mahoning Valley Knights scored all of its runs in the top of the fifth inning to defeat Flex Strut, 3-2, and remain unbeaten (5-0) in the Caffie Division.

Carmen DeChristofaro worked five innings with four strikeouts to pick up the win. Tom Williams earned his third save. Rick DeMuzio and Mike Carbo had four of MVK’s five hits.

Dom Chiarella, Steve Liebel and Vince Gentile hit a double apiece for Flex Strut (5-2).

P.I. I. Express 3, Elite Shockers 0

WARREN — Dave Patrick of Express (2-7) pitched a five-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to pick up the win. He also hit a two-run single in the second inning. Mike Johnson hit a double and two singles for the Shockers (4-2), who lead the Dorchock Division.
