Man charged in standoff with Liberty cops

LIBERTY — The man who held police at bay for more than two hours Tuesday afternoon will face criminal charges.

Richard Tisone, township acting police chief, said Daniel Stevens, 41, of 1422 Keefer Road, has been charged with felony aggravated menacing and felony inducing panic. He said the menacing charge was moved to a felony because Stevens threatened a police officer. He had loaded long guns in his garage, where he had barricaded himself.

“Based on the amount of personnel and manpower used, those will be the two charges,” he said.

No court date has been set for Stevens to appear in Girard Municipal Court.

Tisone said Stevens is still being evaluated and treated at the hospital, and officials want to make sure he receives any help he needs.

“We really want to see to it that he gets the mental help he needs because we don’t want to see a repeat of this situation in the neighborhood, but after that we are going to move forward,” he said.
